Ancestry is a person's self-identified heritage, ethnic origin, descent, or close identification to an ethnic group. These data are based on questions in the population and housing long census questionnaire of the U.S. Census Bureau, collected from a sample of the population.
Race is a person’s self-identified race or races with which respondent most closely identifies. The Census Bureau recognizes 5 race classes. The race data used consists of data for people of one race alone. Race and ethnicity data are derived from SF 1, tables P1, P3 and P4, which is based on questions asked on the short Census questionnaire which is sent to the entire population.
Ethnicity (origin) is the heritage, nationality group, lineage, or country of birth of the person or the person's parents or ancestors before their arrival in the United States.
