EARTHQUAKE EPICENTERS --
Epicenters of Historical Earthquakes, 2011 (1:3,500,000)
Shows the locations of all known historical earthquakes in Indiana with magnitudes greater than 3.0 or greater
that have occurred in Indiana between 1827 and 2010. Earthquake
locations are derived from both instrumented recordings and calculations from
historical accounts. For earthquakes before 1954, magnitudes and locations of
epicenters may have substantial errors. For earthquakes after 1954, magnitudes
and locations of epicenters are presumably more accurate. Magnitude codes describe
the methodologies used to determine magnitude values.
The layer is an amalgam of points created from catalogs maintained by Saint Louis University's
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, the U.S. Geological Survey's National Earthquake Information Center,
and the U.S. Geological Survey's Advanced National Seismic System.
