For each record, values of surface elevations were added using data from the 30-meter digital elevation model (DEM) of Indiana of the U.S. Geological Survey. The elevation values were added to a field named "Z_DEM_2."
A script was run to detect irregular lithologies in a field named "BRDEPTH" in the lithology table. A shapefile of data with irregular bedrock lithologies was created. Cross sections were produced, and, where appropriate, data with irregular bedrock units were added back into the lithology table, into a new field named "BRDEPTH_NEW."
The lithology table was queried using the expression "=Z_DEM_2-BRDEPTH_NEW" to populate a new field named "BRELEV" (bedrock elevation).
Additional data were added from 2,861 oil- and gas-well records, 2,966 seismic refraction records (in areas of Silurian and Ordovician bedrock), and 335 stratigraphic test data (from northeastern Indiana).
The bedrock elevation table was exported as a TXT file into ESRI ArcGIS to produce a shapefile named "BEDROCK_ELEV_44445_INDIANA.SHP."
