Abstract:
KARST_MM65_IN is a polygon shapefile that shows sinkhole areas and sinking-stream basins associated with rocks of Silurian, Devonian, and Mississippian age in southern Indiana.
Purpose:
KARST_MM65_IN was derived from a coverage named SHA_SSB. The purpose of SHA_SSB was to compile unpublished work maps of Richard L. Powell, a former employee of the Indiana Geological Survey (IGS), showing certain karst-associated features of southern Indiana and to bring those maps to publication by the IGS.

After paper source maps were acquired from Richard L. Powell, personnel of the Indiana Geological Survey traced the polygons onto tracing paper. Personnel then scanned the tracings using a widebed black-and-white scanner, digitized the scans using an automatic tracer program to create a coverage named SHA_SSB, georeferenced SHA_SSB using ESRI ArcInfo 7.1, and attributed the coverage using ESRI ArcInfo 7.1.
