The scanned TIFF image was then loaded into ESRI's ArcMap 8.3 and georeferenced using the shapefile named LANDSURVEY_STATE_POLY_IN that was created at a scale of 1:24,000 by the Indiana Geological Survey, to obtain control points in UTM Zone 16, NAD 83 coordinates. The georeferenced image was then used as a backround image at the approximate on-screen zoom scale of 1:356,000. SILURIAN_REEF_POLYGONS_MM54_IN was then loaded into ESRI's ArcMap where an edit session was started and all polygons were manually digitized.
