COAL-BED WATER CHEMISTRY --
Chemical Analyses of Water Samples Associated with Coal Beds, 2011
Shows locations where water samples associated with coal beds have been obtained for chemical analysis.
The data were compiled from a variety of publications of the Indiana Geological Survey and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Water. Data were also compiled from unpublished reports of the Indiana Geological Survey and unpublished theses of Indiana University Department of Geology.
The water samples were obtained from monitoring wells installed in flooded voids of abandoned underground coal mines, in pillars of abandoned underground mines, and in unmined coal beds. Also, some samples were obtained from coal faces and roof rocks within the active Buck Creek Mine. Other samples were obtained from water wells whose uncased intervals penetrated coal beds.
Analyses include pH, acidity, alkalinity, fluoride, chloride, sulfate, calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron, manganese, aluminum, specific conductance, and total dissolved solids.
